Job Description:

Do you love working with teens?  Looking for a well-paying, flexible, part-time job?  Tutors needed for middle & high school students in Portland Metro.  This is a perfect opportunity for college students, teachers, or professionals with skills in math and science and interest in mentoring young people.  

Tutors work with students to master schoolwork, complete assignments, and increase understanding & confidence.  The Parallel Project specializes in tutoring students with executive functioning challenges or other learning differences.

Applicants must be able to commit to the student’s current term. Training and mentoring provided.  Pay based on experience starting at $20/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with middle school and/or high school students privately to oversee the completion of school assignments.

  • Communicate and schedule with parents.

  • Work with students to improve test-taking skills, note-taking processes, and further elaborate on concepts learned in the classroom.

Requirements:

  • Advanced skills in math and science. Must have mastery of at least Pre-Calculus level.

  • Interest and enthusiasm for working with teens

  • Positive approach to learning

  • Knowledge of executive function and learning differences (or willingness to learn)

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Playful attitude and willingness to play games with students to enhance understanding of concepts
